Mike Schmidt: Need for Capital for Small Business
As a Council Member of CIO Colorado, it has been a pleasure to work with a motivated group of entrepreneurial business people who want to see major change happen in Colorado in the area of small business capital formation.
And change is definitely needed in Colorado, as traditional Venture Capital sources with their business model of "large investments in smaller number of companies" is not meeting the needs in the marketplace for smaller investments in larger numbers of companies. We need to "step-up" the pace and velocity of investments in Colorado companies as we have a diverse and talented base of people, techologists, and companies that are ready to go to the next level of opportunity. We just have to continue to seek out and solve these capital sourcing challenges.
And one way is through the proposed Small Business Capital Corporation for Colorado and the unique Capital Fund we have proposed that is focused on performance both for the companies that seek its' capital and for the fund managers and companies that impliment and execute the program.
We enourage you to read our proposed small business capital bill and telling us what you think, and engaging with us to take it through the legislative process.
