Small Business Economic Development Reform:
Overview:
CIO Colorado came together to try to bring a new and innovative voice to small business in Colorado. We believe that the small business community is in crisis and that that there is an urgent need for immediate action that is not being reflected by the State, local economic development agencies or business organizations.
As outlined on this web-site, our initial objective is to develop a list of 10 needed changes to (1) increase resources to small businesses, (2) reduce government burden on small businesses and (3) implement controls on government spending. We are currently working toward the creation and delivery of a master report that includes these recommendations to Governor-elect Hickenlooper and the Colorado legislature by January 11th.

For a listing of some of the submitted initiatives to the CIO Colorado site, click HERE. We are working on implementation plans for each that will be included in our recommendations. We want recommendations that are workable and not simply a wish list.
Pursuing our Legislative Agenda:At the same time, we determined that our goals would be best served if we could get a bill sponsored that would assure us a place at the table during the upcoming legislative session.
Towards this goal, we have created and have successfully introduced, (as of 02/22/2011) an Economic Development Reform Bill bill entitled, "COLORADO HOUSE BILL 11-1266: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – SMALL BUSINESS CAPITAL MARKET", to encapsulate our ideas and recommendations for creating a dynamic small business capital formation and grass roots business development environment for Colorado. We were fortunate to have Colorado House Representative Pete Lee (HD 18) Sponsor our bill which has now been introduced into the legislature for serious review and consideration.
